The Chattahoochee River below Buford Dam continues to provide excellent opportunities for trout anglers heading into summer. Consistent cold-water releases from the dam are keeping water temperatures favorable, and anglers willing to adjust their tactics throughout the day are finding success.
Current Conditions
Water clarity has generally remained good, though generation schedules continue to play a major role in fish location and accessibility. As always, anglers should check the daily generation schedule before heading out, as conditions can change quickly.
Morning hours have been the most productive, particularly during periods of low generation and overcast conditions. As temperatures rise throughout the day, fish have been holding deeper and becoming more selective.
Productive Techniques
Nymphing continues to be the most consistent producer. Small midge patterns, pheasant tails, zebra midges, and other natural presentations have accounted for the majority of trout being brought to hand.
For anglers looking to cover water, streamers have produced some larger fish, especially during periods of increased flow. White, olive, and black patterns have all been effective.
Dry fly opportunities have been more limited but can still be found during low-light conditions and occasional insect activity.
