The First Responder Reset Project: Giving Back to Those Who Serve
Every day, first responders answer calls that most people hope they never experience.
They respond to fatal crashes, medical emergencies, fires, violence, and moments of crisis. They work long hours, miss holidays with their families, and carry the weight of difficult experiences long after their shifts end.
The First Responder Reset Project was created to give something back.
As an Army Combat Medic veteran and former EMS provider, I understand firsthand how easy it is to become consumed by the job. Over time, the stress, trauma, and responsibility can begin to take a toll. While there is growing awareness surrounding mental health in public safety, many first responders still struggle to find opportunities to simply step away, breathe, and recharge.
That's where the First Responder Reset Project comes in.
What Is the First Responder Reset Project?
The First Responder Reset Project is a sponsorship-funded initiative through Thin Line Fly Co. that provides active first responders with guided fishing experiences on the waters of North Georgia.
These trips are not therapy sessions. They are not clinical programs. They are simply an opportunity to disconnect from the demands of the job and reconnect with the outdoors, fellow responders, and themselves.
Whether floating a trout stream in the North Georgia mountains or fishing for striped bass on Lake Lanier, participants are given a chance to slow down, enjoy nature, and spend time away from radios, sirens, reports, and stress.
Sometimes a few hours on the water can make a bigger difference than people realize.
How the Program Works
The project operates entirely through sponsorships.
For $325, an individual, business, organization, or community group can sponsor a Reset Trip for two first responders.
Sponsors may:
Select a specific first responder
Sponsor a particular agency or department
Nominate someone they feel deserves a day on the water
Allow the program to identify recipients based on need
Each sponsored trip provides a guided outdoor experience focused on recreation, camaraderie, and recovery.
Why Fishing?
Fishing creates something that is often difficult to find in today's world: quiet.
There are no emails to answer. No phones ringing. No emergency calls waiting. Just moving water, fresh air, and the opportunity to be present in the moment.
For many veterans, first responders, and healthcare workers, time outdoors has long been recognized as an effective way to reduce stress, improve mood, and create meaningful connections with others.
Fishing isn't the cure for life's challenges, but it can be a powerful tool for restoration.
Supporting Those Who Serve
The First Responder Reset Project is built on a simple belief:
The people who spend their lives taking care of others deserve opportunities to take care of themselves.
Whether it's a paramedic finishing a difficult shift, a firefighter carrying the weight of a tragic call, a law enforcement officer working long hours, or a dispatcher handling emergencies behind the scenes, every first responder deserves time to reset.
By sponsoring a trip, you're helping provide that opportunity.
How You Can Help
Businesses, community organizations, civic groups, and individuals can all make a direct impact through sponsorship.
A single $325 sponsorship provides a day of fishing, conversation, fresh air, and a chance for two first responders to step away from the demands of their profession and focus on themselves for a change.
If you would like to sponsor a trip, nominate a first responder, or learn more about the First Responder Reset Project, please contact Thin Line Fly Co.
Together, we can give back to the men and women who spend their lives serving others—one trip at a time.
Tight Lines. Steady Minds.
